How to Measure Your Child's Feet and Find the Right Shoe Size

Why Getting the Right Fit Matters for Kids

Children's feet grow fast — sometimes half a size every few months. Wearing shoes that are too small can cause blisters, ingrown toenails, and long-term foot problems. Too large, and kids trip and lose stability. Getting the right fit is one of the most important things you can do for your child's foot health and comfort.

How to Measure Your Child's Feet at Home

  1. Gather your tools: A piece of paper, a pencil, and a ruler or measuring tape
  2. Trace the foot: Have your child stand on the paper with their full weight on the foot. Trace around the entire foot with the pencil held vertically.
  3. Measure the length: Measure from the heel to the longest toe in centimeters or inches
  4. Measure the width: Measure the widest part of the foot
  5. Measure both feet: Most people have one foot slightly larger — always fit to the larger foot
  6. Measure at the end of the day: Feet swell slightly throughout the day, so afternoon measurements are most accurate

How Much Growing Room Should You Leave?

For toddlers and young children, leave about 1.5cm (roughly a thumb's width) of space between the longest toe and the end of the shoe. For older kids, 1cm is sufficient. This gives room for growth without the shoe being so large it causes tripping or instability.
